The Wagner Tuning Competition Intercooler Kit is a direct upgrade for the Audi A6 and A7 (C7) 3.0 BiTDI, designed to keep charge air temperatures down when the engine is working hard. Cooler, denser intake air helps the engine make consistent power, particularly during longer drives, towing, or in warmer weather where the standard intercooler can begin to heat soak.

The standard front-mount intercooler on these models is a known weak point once the engine is asked to do more, whether through tuning or simply sustained high load. This kit replaces it with a much larger, more efficient core while keeping fitment straightforward.

Core design and performance

The Competition core measures 610mm x 440mm x 65mm, giving a total volume of 17.45 litres. Compared to the original intercooler, this provides:

• 178% larger inflow area
• 158% more charge air volume
• Connection diameters increased to Ø67mm for reduced back pressure

The tube-fin core uses internal turbulators (small features inside the tubes that disturb the airflow) to improve heat transfer from the charge air. Despite the increase in size, the core weighs just 9.1kg.

The cast aluminium end tanks are designed in CAD and refined using CFD airflow simulation, with an integrated air guide that helps fill the core evenly. This means the whole core is used effectively rather than air channelling through one section. An anti-corrosion coating on the exterior protects the intercooler while still allowing efficient heat conduction.

Fitment

This kit is designed for the Audi A6 and A7 (C7 chassis, including allroad) fitted with the 3.0 BiTDI engine, covering both the 230kW (313PS) pre-facelift and 235-240kW (320-326PS) facelift versions from 2011 onwards. Installation is plug and play, replacing the OEM intercooler in the stock location with no cutting or modification required.

Built for high boost

Each intercooler is pressure tested to 6 bar, making it suitable for heavily tuned and motorsport applications as well as standard road use. For owners running a remap or hybrid turbos, the larger core gives the headroom needed to keep intake temperatures stable under repeated hard acceleration.
