The Wagner Tuning Competition Intercooler Kit is a direct upgrade for the Audi SQ5 3.0 BiTDI and related Q5 3.0 TDI models, designed to deliver cooler, denser charge air to the engine for more consistent power delivery. By replacing the restrictive factory unit with a much larger, better-flowing core, this kit helps your engine run cooler under load and reduces heat soak during spirited or sustained driving.

Why Upgrade the Intercooler?

An intercooler cools the compressed air from the turbo before it enters the engine. Cooler air is denser, meaning more oxygen, better combustion and more reliable power, particularly in warm weather or when driving hard. The standard intercooler on the SQ5 can struggle to keep temperatures stable, which leads to power drop-off as the air heats up. Wagner Tuning’s Competition core tackles this directly with a much larger cooling surface and greater internal volume.

Core Design and Construction

The Competition core uses internal turbulators (small fins inside the core that mix the airflow) to improve heat transfer from the charge air to the cooler. The end tanks are CAD-designed and cast in high-quality aluminium, providing smooth internal airflow and reducing turbulence where the pipes meet the core. A specially developed coating helps dissipate heat while protecting against corrosion.

Despite its larger size, the complete unit weighs just 9.1 kg, which is actually lighter than the factory item. The kit is a true plug-and-play replacement, with no cutting or modification required. Full instructions are included.

Performance Specifications

That works out to 178% more cooling surface area and 158% more internal volume than the standard intercooler, which also helps lower back pressure across the charge air system.
